What is mastering ?
Mastering is the final step of audio post-production. The purpose of mastering is to balance sonic elements of a stereo mix and optimize playback across all systems and media formats.
What is Stem Mastering ?
Stem Mastering has the same philosophy as Stereo Mastering but the engineer receives mixed stems(groups of instruments) from the artist(Drums/Guitars/Vocals etc...). This gives more freedom to the engineer for more detailed work on the song.
Why is Mastering important ?
It is the glue that holds the song together. Mastering is the last crucial part of any project, it is what makes a record “sound like a record” If you’re serious about your work (and I know you are), you will seek out the right engineer to add the finishing touches to your musical vision.
Do you offer Mix feedback?
Yes I do! You can freely send over you song and I will let you know what I think! I love listening to music I have no problem giving free feedback! If you decide to work with me have in mind I always say what I did to the song so you can improve on your next project!
Do you Master music only with analog gear?
No one masters music these days only with analog gear. Digital limiters don't have an analog equivalent. As most Mastering engineers I use a hybrid set up, Hardware chain + Plugins. I use high end converters from Antelope Audio and my analog chain consists of some juicy pieces!
Should I keep my MixBus effects on??
If you have compressors and EQs on the mixbus that make the mix sound the way you want it then keep them! Now, if you have a limiter and it works a lot(more than 1dB reduction) then its better to make it work less or just remove it before sending to me!
What do I need to send you?
I will need the stereo song(or mixed stems if its "stem mastering")on the Sample Rate it was mixed at and 32bit if your DAW allows it. If not then 24bit is fine.
What files are you going to send me?
I am going to send you 2 wav files, one 24bit and one 16bit. I am also going to send a high quality mp3! With the 3 above you are covered on all digital distribution! The 16bit file can also be used to print CDs. DDP is provided when you need a plant cd pressing.
What genre do you work on?
I have done everything from EDM to gospel to extreme metal. Don't hesitate to ask me for a sample no matter the style of your music, trust me I can deliver.
