FAQ
Can kids bypass the blocks by turning off Wi-Fi, restarting or uninstalling?
No. Rules are cached on the device and re-applied after a restart, so blocking works offline. On iOS, app deletion can be restricted. On Android, Device Admin protection blocks uninstall attempts.
How does the iOS app block apps without a VPN?
I use Apple's official Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity). They block apps and websites at OS level, with no VPN and no battery drain.
How does web and adult-content filtering work?
Parents toggle adult-content filters, SafeSearch and custom allow/block lists. iOS enforces this natively. Android uses an on-device DNS filter, so no browsing traffic leaves the phone.
How does the "Ask a Parent" request system work?
Kids tap "Ask for more time" on the blocked screen and add a note. Parents get a push notification and can grant extra minutes or unblock the app instantly.
Do I pay monthly map API fees for location and safe zones?
No. The parent apps use OpenStreetMap, so there are no Google Maps fees. Location uses native iOS and Android GPS, with alerts when a child arrives at or leaves a safe zone.
How do parents pair their child's phone? Can co-parents join?
The parent generates an 8-character code, valid for 15 minutes, and enters it on the child's phone. No child email or password is needed. Owners can invite co-parents by email.
How do subscriptions and free trials work?
I integrate RevenueCat in the parent app with a server-verified backend: active, then a 7-day grace period, then protection pauses on expiry. Plans and trials are configurable.
Will you help with Apple's Family Controls approval and Google Play review?
Yes. I prepare the Apple entitlement request and the Google Play declarations (Accessibility, VPN, Device Admin). Review time is up to Apple and Google and isn't part of my delivery window.
What do I need before we start?
An Apple Developer account, a Google Play developer account (for Android), and a Supabase or Firebase project. I can guide you through setting each one up.
Do you publish the apps for me?
Yes. I handle TestFlight, App Store and Google Play submission, so you can launch without doing the technical steps yourself.
