- A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is as an outline or map of the specific project. It is a key project deliverable that organizes the team's work.
- A WBS starts with the project as the top level deliverable and is further decomposed into sub-deliverables.
- According to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), WBS is deliverable oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team.
- It is created by identifying the Major Functional Deliverables and subdividing those deliverables into smaller systems and sub-deliverables.
- These sub-deliverables are further decomposed until a single person can be assigned. This is called Work Packages. Work Packages will be included in WBS Deliverable.
- It will help you in identifying the time, cost and budget of each work package for your project.
- Risks can be identified to each work package by using WBS.
- When a project is falling behind, referring the WBS will quickly identify the major deliverables impacted by a failing work package or late sub- deliverables.
As I am certified Project Manager (PMP- PMI) and trained to create these WBS, you will find my work satisfactory and a quality product.
