WAPDA – 184 MW Hydropower Plant, Chashma Duration: 6 Weeks Job Description Assisted the electrical maintenance and operations teams at a 184 MW hydroelectric power generation facility. Gained practical experience in the generation, control, and transmission of electrical power. Shadowed senior engineers in the control room and switchyard, observing the operation of synchronous generators, step-up transformers, and SCADA systems. Participated in routine inspections of electrical control panels, protective relays, and excitation systems. Reviewed single-line diagrams and daily electrical logs to support the engineering staff in maintaining grid stability, optimizing power factor, and ensuring safe operations. Achievements: Generator & Excitation Monitoring: Assisted in monitoring the electrical parameters of the synchronous generators, tracking active and reactive power output, stator temperatures, and excitation system health. Switchyard Operations: Participated in guided field inspections of the high-voltage switchyard, observing the maintenance of circuit breakers, isolators, and step-up power transformers. Control Room & SCADA: Shadowed operators in the main control room to understand how SCADA systems are used for grid synchronization, voltage regulation, and load dispatching to the national grid. Protection Systems: Studied the plant's electrical protection schemes, gaining exposure to the operation and visual inspection of protective relays, fault-clearing mechanisms, and battery banks. Safety Protocol Adherence: Strictly followed high-voltage safety procedures, learning about proper electrical isolation (LOTO), earthing, and grounding practices during scheduled maintenance windows
