Do my players need to install mods or shaders?
No. Everything works with the server resource pack on vanilla clients.
Will it work with my existing resource pack?
Yes. I merge the effect into your pack (Oraxen, ItemsAdder, Nexo or a custom pack) without breaking your other items.
Does it work with Iris or OptiFine shaders?
Players using a shader pack may not see the effect, but nothing breaks for them. All other players see it normally.
