As a Software Consultant with The World Bank, I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team to design and deliver the first national digital platform for public accountants in Ethiopia, developed under ACCA standards. The platform, ETICPA (Ethiopian Institute of Certified Public Accountants), was a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s professional accounting ecosystem through technology. In this role, I contributed to both the technical development and system design of the platform, collaborating closely with stakeholders, developers, and domain experts to translate regulatory and professional requirements into a scalable digital solution. The platform supports professional certification processes, member management, and institutional workflows aligned with international accounting standards. This experience gave me hands-on exposure to: • Building large-scale, impact-driven systems in an international development context • Working with global standards (ACCA) and adapting them to local regulatory needs • End-to-end software development, from requirements gathering to implementation • Cross-functional teamwork with local and international partners • Delivering technology solutions that support capacity building and institutional growth Working on ETICPA was a defining professional experience that strengthened my technical skills, problem-solving ability, and understanding of how software can drive meaningful change at a national level.
