I will audit your first 2500 words for reader retention
About this Gig
Are readers going to keep turning the page or stop after chapter one?
I provide a First Chapter Reader-Retention Audit for fiction authors who want honest, story-level feedback before revising, querying, publishing, or sending their manuscript to beta readers.
This is not proofreading, copyediting, or a grammar cleanup. I focus on the big-picture issues that affect whether readers stay engaged: opening hook, pacing, character clarity, tension, stakes, scene purpose, genre expectations, and confusion points.
You will receive a clear editorial memo that explains what is working, what is weakening the chapter, and what to revise first.

FAQ
Will you proofread or fix grammer?
No. This is not proofreading, copyediting, or line editing. I may mention repeated writing issues if they affect reader experience, but I do not correct every sentence, typo, or grammar issue. This audit focuses on story, structure, pacing, and reader engagement.
What will I receive?
You will receive a written editorial memo with clear feedback on what is working, what is weakening the chapter, where readers may lose interest, and what to revise first. Depending on your package, the memo may include reader-retention notes, revision priorities, and recommendations for strengthen
What genres do you work with?
I work primarily with fiction, including fantasy, romance, thriller, mystery, sci-fi, dystopian, young adult, Christian fiction, LitRPG, and general commercial fiction. If your manuscript is highly technical, academic, poetry, or nonfiction, please message me before ordering.
Will your feedback be harsh?
My feedback is honest and direct, but not cruel. I will tell you what is working, what is not working, and where the chapter may be losing readers. The goal is not to tear down your writing. The goal is to give you a clear path for revision.
Is this the same as beta reading?
Not exactly. Beta reading usually focuses on general reader reaction. This audit is more strategic and editorial. I look at why the chapter is or is not working from a reader-retention and developmental editing perspective. You will receive more structured feedback than a typical beta read.
Do you work with AI-written manuscripts?
Yes, but only if you are looking for honest story-level feedback and are willing to revise. If the chapter feels generic, repetitive, emotionally flat, or confusing, I will say so directly and explain why.
