Network Consultants

A network consultant is an IT specialist who designs, reviews, and secures the networks your business runs on. That includes office networks, Wi-Fi, remote access for staff, and cloud networks on platforms like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

A network consultant typically assesses how your devices, servers, and cloud resources connect, then recommends changes that improve speed, reliability, and security. Some focus on planning new infrastructure, while others specialize in auditing existing setups for weaknesses.

Businesses usually bring one in when opening a new office, moving systems to the cloud, dealing with unreliable connections, or preparing for a security review or compliance audit.

Network consultants on Fiverr commonly offer these services:

1. Network design: planning office LAN and Wi-Fi layouts, IP addressing, and segmentation for new or growing sites.
2. Cloud network architecture: configuring virtual networks, subnets, and gateways on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
3. Security audits: reviewing firewall rules, open ports, access controls, and outdated equipment.
4. Remote access and VPN setup: giving remote teams secure access to internal systems.
5. Hybrid connectivity: linking on-premises offices to cloud environments through site-to-site VPNs.
6. Troubleshooting: diagnosing slow connections, dropped calls, or intermittent outages.

Some consultants also handle broader cloud computing services such as server migration and cost optimization.

A network consultant focuses on how systems connect and how traffic flows securely between them. Their work covers architecture, routing, firewalls, and segmentation, across both physical offices and cloud environments.

A cloud engineer builds and manages cloud resources like servers, databases, containers, and deployment pipelines. Networking is part of their work, but not always their deepest specialty. Teams that need automated deployments often look for DevOps engineering support as well.

An IT support technician handles day-to-day issues such as user accounts, device setup, and helpdesk tickets. For recurring problems, IT support services are often a better fit, while a network consultant is the right call for design decisions and security reviews.

Based on Fiverr marketplace data, starting prices for network and cloud consulting gigs on this page range from around $100 for focused setup or configuration tasks to roughly $1,000 for larger cloud infrastructure projects. Consultants who bill hourly commonly quote between $40 and $120 per hour, depending on certifications and specialty.

Basic packages usually cover a review or a single configuration task. Premium packages may include full network design, documentation, and follow-up support.

Your budget will depend on:

• Environment size, such as the number of sites, users, and devices
• Cloud versus on-premises scope, or a hybrid of both
• Security and compliance needs, including audits against a specific framework
• Documentation depth, from quick notes to full network diagrams

For cloud-heavy projects, it helps to review typical AWS cloud architect costs as a benchmark.

Most network consulting projects on Fiverr follow these steps:

1. Requirements gathering: the consultant learns about your users, locations, applications, and security needs.
2. Assessment: existing equipment, configurations, and cloud settings are reviewed through screenshots, exports, or secure remote access.
3. Design or findings report: you receive a network diagram, a list of risks, or both, with prioritized recommendations.
4. Implementation support: the consultant configures devices or cloud resources, or guides your team through the changes.
5. Documentation and handover: final diagrams, settings, and access notes are delivered.

Simple reviews can wrap up in a few days. Larger designs or migrations may be delivered in milestones over several weeks.

Network consultants work with a mix of hardware, cloud platforms, and diagnostic tools:

• Networking hardware and firewalls: Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, Ubiquiti, MikroTik, and pfSense
• Cloud networking: AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, and Google Cloud VPC, plus load balancers and gateways
• Diagnostic tools: Wireshark for packet analysis and Nmap for discovering open ports and devices
• Infrastructure as code: Terraform for building repeatable cloud network configurations
• Monitoring: tools like Zabbix, PRTG, or cloud-native monitoring for uptime and traffic alerts

Security-focused consultants may also map their findings to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, which gives your team a recognized structure for tracking improvements. Whatever the toolset, you should receive exported configurations and diagrams you can keep.

Yes. Most network consulting on Fiverr is done remotely. Cloud networks are managed entirely online, and many office networks can be reviewed through configuration exports, screenshots, and secure remote sessions.

Remote consultants can design networks, audit firewall rules, configure VPNs, and troubleshoot many performance issues without being on site.

Physical tasks are the main exception. Running cables, mounting access points, and installing hardware usually require someone on location. In those cases, the consultant can create the plan and shopping list, then guide a local technician or a member of your team through the installation step by step. Working this way often costs less than hiring a local firm for the full project, because you only pay on-site rates for the physical work.

Common add-ons for network consulting gigs include:

• Detailed network diagrams for documentation or compliance
• Additional sites or cloud accounts beyond the package scope
• Security hardening after an audit, such as rewriting firewall rules
• Ongoing monitoring or support on a monthly basis

Hardware, software licenses, and cloud usage fees are not included. Routers, firewalls, and access points are purchased separately, as are subscriptions for security tools. A good consultant will still recommend specific models that fit your budget.

Deep penetration testing is also usually a separate service. If you need someone to actively test your defenses, consider hiring an ethical hacker for penetration testing alongside the network review.
