FAQ
What kind of editing do you offer?
There's some misunderstanding about the names used for certain stages, so I'll try to clarify. I offer Editorial Letters > Substantive Editing (often mislabeled as developmental editing) > Line Editing > Copyediting (often mislabeled as proofreading)> Proofreading.
What is developmental editing?
Developmental editing can mean two different things depending on the person. Originally, developmental editing is what is known as brainstorming ideas, planning your book's structure, and outlining the story. In this gig, it means substantive editing.
What is substantive editing?
Substantive editing is what a lot of writers call developmental editing (but it's not). This is the first editing stage that happens *after* you've written your manuscript. Chapters may be moved around or deleted, characters may be nuked or created, plot holes fixed, and so on.
What is line editing?
Line editing comes after substantive editing. In this stage, I'll be moving from macro editing to more micro. Here is where I will check for tone, clarity, run-ons, sentence fragments, eliminate jargon and crutch words, and so on.
What is copyediting?
Copyediting is what people consider proofreading. This is the stage where I will look for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
What is proofreading?
Proofreading is like copyediting, where we look for typos, but we check the *printed* version of your manuscript so that we can also make sure titles, page numbers, and overall structure look good. I do not offer this service, but I will copyedit.
What romance subgenres do you edit?
While I specialize in fantasy, I will edit nearly any romance subgenre except for historical, spiritual, and nationalism/military romance. The subgenres I will edit include dark romance, erotica, and queer romance.
Do you edit just fantasy novels or novels of other genres?
No, I only edit novels that have romance and/or fantasy as the main plot or a heavy sub-plot. Fantasy includes its subgenres as well: supernatural, paranormal, urban fantasy, ect.
