Developmental edits - big-picture, substantive edits for plot, structure, character development, pacing, premise, motivation, writing technique, plot holes, stakes and goals, to really grip your reader.
Line edits - refining prose for rhythm, flow and conciseness, word choice, removing redundancies/repetition, voice consistency, detail accuracy, grammar, spelling & punctuation.

FAQ
How will I receive my substantive edits?
I will mark up your Manuscript using tracked changes on a Microsoft Word document as well as providing full structural editorial notes for a developmental edit. For line and copy edits, I provide a 'clean' copy, with all changes made and comments removed.
Do you provide developmental edits/line and copy editing separately?
I do, but to save on cost, some writers request a comprehensive edit with all elements in the one round, so I offer this service on request.
What will the developmental edits entail?
Big-picture aspects, such as story and scene structure, character development, pacing, concept, stakes, motivation and goals, narrative technique, foreshadowing, believability, story flow - so all the story 'beats' are aligned. You will receive in-margin comments and a detailed editorial report.
What will the line edit aspect of the edit focus on?
Sentence structure and flow, the removal of redundancies and repetition, word choice, emotional temperature, voice consistency, POV issues and narrative distance, show not tell, clarity, and grammar, spelling and punctuation.
