FAQ
What’s the difference between copy editing and proofreading?
Copy editing corrects grammar, punctuation, style, word choice and consistency throughout your draft. Proofreading is the final polish for typos, spacing and formatting errors. If your draft hasn’t been edited yet, start with copy editing.
Which service do I need?
If you’ve self-edited but never had a professional edit, choose copy editing. If your book is already edited and formatted, choose proofreading. Not sure? Send me a sample and I’ll recommend the right one.
Will I see every change you make?
Yes. I use Track Changes and comments in Word or Google Docs, so you can accept or reject each edit. A clean copy is delivered too. Nothing changes without your approval.
Will you change my writing style or voice?
No. I fix errors and improve clarity and consistency while preserving your voice, tone and message. Bigger concerns, like structure, are flagged in comments rather than rewritten.
What types of books do you edit?
Nonfiction, self-help, life coaching, medical and health, mental health, history, DIY, safety, home and pets, kids’ books, workbooks and Kindle ebooks. For fiction, message me first to confirm fit.
Do you offer US and UK English?
Yes. Tell me your preference (US, UK, Canadian or Australian) when ordering, and I’ll apply it consistently, including spelling, punctuation and date formats.
Can you check formatting, headings and consistency?
Yes. I check heading styles, capitalization, hyphenation, number and abbreviation usage, and repeated terms. I also create a simple style sheet so names and terms stay consistent.
Do you fact-check my content?
I flag inconsistencies in names, dates and terms, and anything that looks unsupported. I don’t verify technical or clinical accuracy, so please have an expert review medical or specialized content.
Can you proofread my final formatted PDF or Kindle file?
Yes. A final proofread of your formatted interior catches typos, layout slips, widows and orphans, and page-number errors before you upload to KDP. Share the PDF and I’ll mark corrections.
Do I keep my rights, and is my work confidential?
Yes. You keep 100% ownership of your manuscript. I never share, reuse or publish your content, and everything is kept strictly confidential.
