I will read, critique, and edit your childrens book
About this Gig
As a professional ghostwriter and former acquisitions editor/publishing director for an independent children's book publisher, I've helped hundreds of authors just like you navigate their publishing journeys. During my career, I've worked side by side with authors, helping to write and edit over 80 published children's picture books. Now, I'm bringing that expertise to the freelance market to help YOU polish and perfect your children's book manuscript.
Here are the ways we can work together to give your book the professional edge:
- Big Picture Feedback: A 1-2 page written critique of your manuscript. What's working? What isn't? Get the feedback only a seasoned acquisitions editor can provide.
- Red Pen Review: Written feedback, plus line-by-line edits and recommendations. We'll dive into the details and polish each line.
- Ghost Edit/Rewrite: Written feedback, plus complete reshaping of your content. I will rewrite and restructure your draft to meet industry standards.
- Add-Ons: Page breakdowns and illustration notes, book blurbs, and author bios. These add-ons will help take your draft into the next phase of your book's journey. (Best for Red Pen/Ghost Edit clients.)

FAQ
Why 1200 words? What if my draft is only 200?
In my experience, first drafts are always too short or too long for a children’s book that meets industry standards. Whether we have to flesh it out or trim it down, I will consider your target audience and help you get your draft to the right place!
What if my manuscript is WAY longer than 1200 words?
You may not be writing a children's book! Please message me about longer manuscripts for a personalized recommendation and quote.
What are page breakdowns and illustration notes?
In addition to your Red Pen Review or Ghost Edit, I will divide your text to suit a 24-, 32-, or 48-page children’s book format and provide thoughtful illustration notes for each page. Even if you want to make some tweaks, this will give you a good roadmap for the illustration and design phase.
Do you use AI?
Nope. Your review and written feedback will be provided by me—your editor—just like we did in the old days (you know, like three years ago).
