10 ways to make money on Snapchat

Snapchat started as an app for sending fun, disappearing messages between friends, but it has since grown and evolved through continuous updates. Now, users can create a public profile for sharing video content with their friends and followers, making it easier for users to build a following and generate income.
Let’s learn more about how to use your Snapchat public profile—and a few other strategies—to make money with your social media strategy this year.

1. Snapchat revenue share program

Starting in February 2025, Snapchat is changing the way it does monetization. Previously, strategies like Snapchat Spotlight and Creator Gifts were among the top ways to earn on the platform. Spotlight allowed users to earn rewards by submitting videos to the Spotlight feed, while Creator Gifts enabled fans to send monetized gifts to their favorite creators.
However, both of those are being shut down in early 2025—Snapchat Spotlight by January 31, 2025, and Creator Gifts by February 10, 2025. In their place, Snapchat is creating a new revenue share program.
This program is a unified monetization method that gives creators a share of the revenue from Snap ads that appear within both Stories and Spotlight snaps (the latter must be at least one minute in length to apply).
To qualify for the program, you must meet the following criteria:
  • Have at least 50,000 followers
  • Post at least 25x per month to Saved Stories or Spotlight
  • Post to either Spotlight or Public Stories on at least 10 of the last 28 days
  • Achieve one of the following in the last 28 days:
    {"nodeType":"unordered-list","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"list-item","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"paragraph","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"text","value":"10 million Snap views ","marks":[],"data":{}}]}]},{"nodeType":"list-item","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"paragraph","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"text","value":"1 million Spotlight views ","marks":[],"data":{}}]}]},{"nodeType":"list-item","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"paragraph","data":{},"content":[{"nodeType":"text","value":"12,000 hours of view time","marks":[],"data":{}}]}]}]}
  • Be at least 18 years old or the age of legal majority in your country
  • Reside in an eligible country
  • Comply with the Community Guidelines, Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility, and Monetization Terms
Because this program is so new, we don’t yet have data on how much Snapchat users can make. However, this is likely going to be one of the best options for making consistent income through your usage of the platform.

2. Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a strategy where you make money by promoting products and services on behalf of a business. You earn a commission for all purchases or sign-ups made by those you send their way.
For example, planner company The Day Designer has a program that offers a 15% commission for each purchase made with an affiliate’s personalized link.
A content creator can then put together video content on their Snapchat account that shares how they use a Day Designer planner, including a link for their followers to make a purchase. Anytime someone uses their link, that creator gets 15% of the purchase price.
While that’s one company’s specific affiliate program, there are other platforms out there that let you get access to a wide variety of products to promote—Amazon being just one of them. Share products you love, include your affiliate link and watch as the commissions pour in.

3. Sponsored content and influencer marketing

Another way to make money online with your Snapchat app is by partnering with businesses to create sponsored content, which is a common influencer marketing strategy. As an influencer, brands will often want to collaborate with you so they can reach your audience with their products or services.
If you create engaged content and have a large enough Snapchat following, you can start reaching out to businesses about partnering up to create sponsored videos.
This type of video typically introduces a product or service to your audience, mentioning the brand and providing a link to purchase for themselves. However, in this instance, instead of getting a commission from each purchase, you simply get paid by the brand for creating and sharing the video.
Snapchat also makes it easy to indicate that you’re sharing a sponsored post—something that’s essential to disclose if you’re getting paid to create a video. Simply turn on the “Paid Partnership” toggle before publishing your public-facing story so it appears as a sponsored video in users’ feeds.
The amount of money you can make from sponsored posts will depend greatly on your follower count as well as how engaged your audience is. Larger follower counts along with higher post reach and engagement rates yield a higher rate per sponsored post.

4. Sell merch

Use Snapchat to promote your merch, like t-shirts, mugs, sweatshirts, pens, and more. Many creative businesses create and sell merch or “swag” as a way to bring in more money while also building brand awareness as their fans wear their merch out and about.
As a Snapchatter, start promoting your merch along with the links to buy it so your active followers can easily find it and shop around.

5. Sell digital products

Another great option for those with a digital business model is to create digital products and sell them using your Snapchat content. This is a great side hustle to start building up an online business, and you can create engaging content like Stories and Spotlight videos to help promote your products.
Leave a link to your website where interested followers can purchase your products. This is easy with digital products as you don’t have to worry about shipping at all—just deliver the product via email and the entire transaction is complete.

6. Sell services

And of course, you can also use Snapchat to sell your services.
For example, if you're a graphic designer, you can show quick time-lapses of your design process, or if you're a writer, share snippets of your writing journey. This gives your Snapchat followers insight into the quality and effort behind your services.
This is perfect for Fiverr users who want another channel for promoting their gigs. Share details on what you offer and why it’s so valuable for your customers to generate even more interest and sales.
On Fiverr, you can offer services like:
Simply go to Fiverr.com, create a seller account, and set up your gigs describing the services you offer, your pricing, and delivery timeframes. Your experience with Snapchat could be especially valuable for offering social media-related services.

7. Snapchat ads

Running Snapchat ads is a great way to reach your target audience and help them discover your account, your small business, or anything else you’re promoting. For even better results, try incorporating user-generated content (UGC) into your ads. This means using real content from your customers or community in your advertising.
There are different types of Snap ads you can run as well, depending on what your objectives are. These include:
  • Basic Snapchat ads: Place an image or short video ad between Stories or Spotlight videos
  • Sponsored Snaps: Send a direct message ad to your target demographic, enabling you to start a conversation with those who open your ad message
  • Promoted Places: Highlight sponsored places on the Snap Map
This is another great way to promote your merch, digital products, and services. Though you have to put a budget behind your ads, creating high-quality ad content can help you generate a good return on your investment (ROI), making this strategy worth it.

8. Exclusive content

Consider using your Snapchat to post exclusive content that only paying customers can access. You can use a site like Patreon to promote your exclusive Snapchat account.
Depending on the type of content you share, you can create a subscription that includes access to your account for anywhere from $1-100+ per month.
Whether you share behind-the-scenes content as part of a basic $5 subscription or you showcase in-depth tutorials or educational videos for $25 or more, this can be a great way to earn some extra income through Snapchat.

9. Sponsored lenses

Sponsored lenses are filters that users can add to their own snaps. Previously called geofilters, these lenses are a fun form of augmented reality that can also promote your business and its products or services.
There are two different types of lenses: face lenses, which let users put a filter on their face, and world lenses, which let users explore a world within their camera. Interested advertisers can work directly with Snapchat’s AR team to develop a lens for their campaign.

10. Become a Snap Star

You can also apply to become a Snap Star—or a verified active user. To receive this accolade, you must meet the following criteria:
  • You have a large and engaged following (or you are well-known, even if you haven’t yet reached a large number of followers)
  • You consistently create and share Stories with your audience
  • You’re a real person or business (general interest accounts are ineligible)
  • Your account is sought after or relevant
  • Your content is high-quality and follows content guidelines
While becoming a Snap Star doesn’t come with revenue in itself, it verifies your account and opens you up to growing an even larger and more engaged audience—which can help you make more money by using the strategies laid out above.

Tips for making money on Snapchat

Ready to increase your income with Snapchat? Remember these key tips as you create your content.

Post frequently

If you want to increase video promotion and distribution, you need to post a lot of Stories. That’s a lot of organic UGC. In fact, Snapchat itself recommends posting 20-40+ Snaps to your Public Stories each day.
To reach that feat, keep this in mind:
  • Understand that a lot of your daily life will be public.
  • If you don’t have much going on one day, make a plan to create engaging content to share.
  • Crowd-source content ideas by asking your audience what they’d like to see from you.
  • Decide which parts of your life you want to keep private versus public and plan your content creation times accordingly.
Check your social media analytics regularly to see the best (and worst) times to post.

Know your audience

We mentioned crowd-sourcing some ideas, which is a good idea as you start to build your audience. But eventually, you should have a solid grasp on what your audience wants to see from you, so that you can provide.
The more engaged your audience is, the easier it is to grow your following and generate even more income.

Test different video lengths

Snapchat recommends longer stories to increase engagement, but short and sweet videos can also grab attention. Test out different lengths—and how those lengths perform on Stories versus Spotlight—so you can maximize your profits.

Be authentic

The core of your social media strategy should be authenticity. Snapchatters want to see the real you through your content. Be true to yourself and your audience, and always remain authentic to create genuine connections with your audience.

Showcase products right away

If you’re selling merch or products, showcase them as soon as they’re available to increase chances someone will buy. Better yet, start showcasing your products before they’re launched as a way to build interest so your audience is primed to buy right when your products are released.
